Mechanism

Amobarbital, an intermediate-acting barbiturate, produces sedative-hypnotic effects useful for severe intractable insomnia and pre-operative sedation. Its mechanism of action leads to central nervous system depression and is not antagonized by flumazenil, distinguishing it from benzodiazepines.
