Mechanism

Butorphanol is a partial agonist at kappa- and mu-opioid receptors, producing analgesia and respiratory depression with a ceiling effect.

Indications

acute pain (e.g., postoperative pain)migraine pain (nasal formulation)postoperative painful conditionsshort-lasting painful conditions (e.g. renal colic)
