Mechanism
Cefpirome's zwitterion character permits better penetration through porin channels of gram-negative bacteria. It is resistant to many β-lactamases and inhibits type 1 β-lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae. It is more potent against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria than the 3rd generation compounds.
