Mechanism

Deflazacort penetrates cells and binds to a high affinity cytoplasmic receptor protein. This complex migrates into the nucleus and binds to glucocorticoid response elements (GRE) on chromatin, regulating protein synthesis. It is a glucocorticoid with antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, lacking mineralocorticoid activity.

Live Attenuated Vaccines
Contraindicated
Database

Risk of disseminated infection from the vaccine strain. Reduced vaccine efficacy.

Avoid live attenuated vaccines during deflazacort therapy (especially at immunosuppressive doses) and for a period after discontinuation. Inactivated vaccines are generally safe but may have reduced efficacy.
