Mechanism
Fludrocortisone acts on the distal tubules and collecting ducts of the kidney to enhance reabsorption of Na+ from the tubular fluid; it also increases the urinary excretion of K+ and H+. These actions are mediated via the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR).

mineralocorticoid replacement (primary adrenal insufficiency)congenital adrenal hyperplasia (salt wasting)
Dosing
- Adult
- Mineralocorticoid replacement (primary adrenal insufficiency): 0.05-0.2 mg/day. Lower dose used initially and titrated upward. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (salt wasting): 0.05–2.0 mg/day.
