Mechanism

Insulin degludec is a modified insulin with one amino acid deleted (threonine at B30) and conjugated to hexadecanedioic acid. When injected subcutaneously, it forms multihexameric complexes and binds to albumin, which together slow its absorption and extend its action for prolonged basal insulin coverage.
