Mechanism

Lumefantrine is an orally active, high efficacy, long-acting erythrocytic schizontocide, chemically and mechanistically related to halofantrine and mefloquine. Additionally, it affects nucleic acid and protein synthesis of the parasite. It acts synergistically with artemether.

Indications

Dosing

Adult
4 tablets. Day 1: 2 doses separated by 8 h; thereafter 1 dose twice daily 2 days
Pediatric
Weight (kg) 5–15: 1 tablet/dose; 15–25: 2 tablets/doses; 25–<35: 3 tables/doses; >35: 4 tablets/doses. Use same 3-day schedule as adults
