Mechanism
This vaccine contains long chains of capsular polysaccharides collected from inactivated Streptococcus pneumoniae. It induces type-specific antipolysaccharide antibodies, although it often elicits suboptimal immune responses and shorter-term immunity compared to conjugate vaccines.
