Mechanism
A nonabsorbable polymer that acts as a nonselective anion exchanger. It effectively lowers serum phosphate concentration in hemodialysis patients and also binds bile acids and, to a lesser extent, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and fat-soluble vitamins.
