Mechanism
Ticlopidine is a prodrug whose active metabolite irreversibly blocks the Gi coupled P2Y12 purinergic receptors, which mediate adenylyl cyclase inhibition due to ADP. This interferes with platelet activation and prevents fibrinogen binding to platelets.
