Carbamate cholinesterase inhibitor · Anticholinesterase; Treatment for Myasthenia Gravis
Ambenonium, a carbamoyl ester linked drug, inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE) by serving as an alternate substrate that is hydrolyzed much more slowly than acetylcholine. Its reaction with the active center serine progressively generates a carbamoylated enzyme, leading to prolonged inhibition of AChE-mediated acetylcholine hydrolysis.
