Mechanism
Brincidofovir is a phospholipid conjugate of cidofovir that is rapidly taken up by cells and converted into cidofovir. Cidofovir, in its active diphosphate form, competes with deoxycytidine triphosphate for incorporation into herpesvirus DNA, inhibiting replication.
Indications
FDA-approved therapy for smallpoxsevere poxviral infections (can be given along with tecovirimat)
Dosing
- Adult
- 200 mg weekly for two doses, orally.
