Mechanism
Ciprofibrate belongs to the fibrate class of drugs. Fibrates primarily act by decreasing serum triglycerides and have a variable effect on LDL-cholesterol. Ciprofibrate is shown to increase the expression of MDR2 in the liver, suggesting involvement with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) activation.
