Mechanism

Clavulanate is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby extending the spectrum of amoxicillin's activity against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.

Indications

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO, in combination with amoxicillin)

Dosing

Adult
875 mg (amoxicillin) twice daily (in combination with amoxicillin for SIBO, 10-day course).
