Mechanism

Endogenous glucosamine is a precursor used to produce glycosaminoglycans and other proteoglycans in articular cartilage. Supplementation with glucosamine is postulated to increase the supply of these necessary building blocks, leading to better maintenance and strengthening of existing cartilage, thereby addressing the imbalance between cartilage production and degradation seen in osteoarthritis.
