Mechanism
Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines use virus-like particles formed by HPV surface components to induce immunity and protect against HPV infection, thereby preventing associated cancers and genital warts.
Indications
prevention of cervical cancerprevention of anal cancerprevention of oropharyngeal cancersprevention of vaginal and vulvar cancers in womenprevention of anal cancer in both females and malesprevention of genital warts in both females and males
Dosing
- Adult
- for everyone through age 26 years, if not vaccinated already. Some adults age 27 through 45 years, who are not already vaccinated, should receive the HPV vaccine depending on their risk for new HPV infections. Recommended for any man who has sex with a man. Given in a three-dose regimen on a schedule of 0, 1 to 2, and 6 months.

- recommended for all 11- and 12-year-olds
