Mechanism
Oliceridine is the first mu-opioid receptor biased agonist approved by the FDA, designed to preferentially activate G protein pathways over β-arrestin pathways. However, its overall pharmacological profile and contraindications are similar to morphine.
Indications
severe acute pain requiring an intravenous opioid (hospital setting only, when alternative treatments do not provide adequate pain relief)
