Penicillin G is an antibiotic that kills Treponema pallidum by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis. T. pallidum is susceptible to very low concentrations of penicillin G, and this aqueous formulation produces treponemicidal concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for effective treatment of neurosyphilis.
