Mechanism

Penicillin G is an antibiotic that kills Treponema pallidum by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis. T. pallidum is susceptible to very low concentrations of penicillin G. This formulation, when administered intramuscularly with oral probenecid, ensures treponemicidal concentrations of penicillin G in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
