Mechanism

Suvorexant is an inhibitor of orexin 1 and 2 receptors. Orexins promote wakefulness, so their antagonists enhance REM and non-REM sleep.

Indications

Insomniamay reduce relapse drinking by treating sleep disruptions commonly found in alcohol use disorder

Dosing

Adult
One 10-mg dose should be taken within 30 min of going to bed if at least 7 h remain until the projected time of awakening.
