Mechanism

Tribendimidine is an agonist of muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptors of parasitic nematodes, specifically the B-subtype. This selectivity contributes to its activity against a broader spectrum of parasites, including trematodes and cestodes, and against levamisole-resistant isolates.

Indications

soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections (Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm, Trichuris trichiura, Enterobius vermicularis)Clonorchis sinensisOpisthorchis viverrini

Onset
Cannot be detected in plasma after administration.
Half-life
4.7 h (for active metabolite dADT)
Metabolism
Rapidly and completely broken down to p-(1-dimethylamino ethylimino) aniline (dADT), which is the active metabolite, and terephthalaldehyde (TPAL). dADT undergoes metabolism to acetylated dADT, and TPAL is transformed into terephalic acid (TPAC).

Metabolites are mainly excreted via the urine.
