Mechanism
This live oral vaccine is prepared from the Ty 21a attenuated strain of S. typhi, which lacks the Vi polysaccharide and is nonpathogenic. It works by lodging in the intestinal mucosa to protect against S. typhi invasion of the gut and also provides systemic immunity, producing high cell-mediated and modest antibody-mediated immunity.
