Mechanism
Avibactam is a novel, structurally dissimilar non–β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor with a broader spectrum of inhibition. It provides clinically useful inhibition against narrow- and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-type, chromosomal AmpC, and KPC-type β-lactamases (but not metallo-β-lactamases).
