Mechanism

An alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) inhibitor that prevents the metabolism of methanol and ethylene glycol into their toxic metabolites (formaldehyde/formic acid and glycolaldehyde/glycolic acid, respectively).

Dosing

Adult
For methanol poisoning: Loading dose of 15 mg/kg i.v. followed by 10 mg/kg every 12 hours till serum methanol falls below 20 mg/dl.
