Mechanism

It is an inactivated suspension of the poliovirus, which elicits an immune response without causing disease.

Indications

Primary immunization in adults (due to higher risk of paralysis with OPV)Immunization in persons with compromised immune system

Dosing

Adult
Three doses of 1 ml each injected s.c. in the deltoid region at 4–6 week intervals. A fourth dose is given 6–12 months later. Booster doses are given every 5 years.
Geriatric
Three doses of 1 ml each injected s.c. in the deltoid region at 4–6 week intervals. A fourth dose is given 6–12 months later. Booster doses are given every 5 years.
