Mechanism

Oxandrolone is a 17α-alkylated androgen and an anabolic steroid. Like other steroids, it acts intracellularly in target cells by binding to the intracellular androgen receptor. This binding initiates a series of events leading to growth, differentiation, and synthesis of various enzymes and other functional proteins, aiming for anabolic effects.

Indications

To improve hypermetabolic state in children with significant burnspromotion of normal growth (concomitant with estrogen and growth hormone in Turner syndrome)
