Somatostatin Analogue · Endocrine Agent
Pasireotide is a synthetic somatostatin analog that binds to and activates somatostatin receptors (SSTRs), particularly SSTR5, with greater affinity than other analogs. Activation of SSTRs, including SSTR2 and SSTR5, inhibits cyclic AMP accumulation and regulates hormone secretion, thereby reducing levels of hormones like growth hormone (GH).
Avoid (may impair biosynthesis of fetalplacental steroids).
