Mechanism
Ravulizumab is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the C5 component of complement, blocking its cleavage. This action disrupts the lytic cascade, preventing the formation of the membrane attack complex. By inhibiting complement activation, ravulizumab prevents the lysis of host red blood cells in conditions such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.
