Mechanism

Sumatriptan is a 5HT1-receptor agonist. It is the 5HT1-receptor agonist of choice for acute migraine treatment based on its clinical efficacy and safety profile.

Contraindications

  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Coronary artery vasospasm
  • Exposure to MAO inhibitor within preceding 2 weeks
  • Within 24 hours of another triptan

  • Within 24 hours of SNRIs
