Mechanism

Varicella-Zoster Immunoglobulin provides passive immunity to individuals exposed to the varicella-zoster virus. It contains pre-formed antibodies that bind to and neutralize the virus, thereby preventing or mitigating the severity of chickenpox or herpes zoster.

Indications

Prophylaxis in individuals exposed to chickenpox and at special risk of complications

Dosing

Adult
membranes. It is used by mouth for severe herpetic stomatitis. Aciclovir eye ointment is used for herpes simplex infections of the eye; it is combined with systemic treatment for ophthalmic zoster.
