Mechanism

Calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate act as antacids, neutralizing stomach acid to reduce acidity. Sodium alginate reacts with gastric acid to form a viscous gel, creating a protective raft that floats on the stomach contents, physically impeding the reflux of acid into the esophagus.
