Mechanism

Ergotamine is a partial agonist and antagonist at α adrenergic, serotonergic, and dopaminergic receptors.

Increased risk of serious vasoconstrictive adverse effects, including coronary vasospasm and myocardial infarction.

Do not administer sumatriptan and ergotamine within 24 hours of each other.
