Mechanism
The Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine is a polysaccharide-protein conjugate designed to confer immunity by inducing antibodies to the capsular polysaccharide polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP).
Indications
prevention of life-threatening childhood bacterial diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae, including meningitis, bacteremia with sepsis, epiglottitis, buccal, preseptal, and orbital cellulitisProtection of infants and children against H. influenzae meningitisProtection of infants and children against H. influenzae pneumonia
Dosing
- Pediatric
- Infants 2–6 months: 3 doses (0.5 ml i.m.) at 8-week gaps. 7–11 months: 2 doses. Older than 1 year: only 1 dose.
