Mechanism
Lercanidipine lowers blood pressure by relaxing arteriolar smooth muscle and decreasing peripheral vascular resistance through inhibition of transmembrane movement of Ca2+ via voltage-sensitive Ca2+ channels. This action reduces the total amount of Ca2+ that reaches intracellular sites, leading to vasodilation.
