Mechanism
The current measles vaccine is a live attenuated strain (Moraten strain) that induces immunity to measles. Vaccination is initiated at 12 to 15 months of age because transplacentally acquired maternal antibodies inhibit vaccine immunogenicity in the first year of life.

- initiated at 12 to 15 months of age; as a component of the combination MMR or MMRV vaccine, beginning between 12 and 15 months of age, and a second dose of MMR is given at 4 through 6 years of age
