Mechanism

Sufentanil is an opioid agonist that primarily acts on the μ opioid receptor, showing strong agonistic activity. It also exhibits moderate agonistic activity at the δ opioid receptor and weaker activity at the κ opioid receptor. These receptors belong to the rhodopsin family of GPCRs.

Dosing

Adult
Anesthesia: 0.25-30 mcg/kg IV depending on procedure duration. Adjunct: 10-25 mcg (0.1-0.5 mcg/kg) with N2O/O2. Major surgery: up to 30 mcg/kg IV.
