Mechanism

Vilanterol is an ultralong-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist. It selectively activates beta2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, leading to relaxation and bronchodilation. This action provides sustained improvement in airflow for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
