Mechanism
Trizivir is a fixed-dose combination containing abacavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine, all of which are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). These agents act by interfering with the viral enzyme reverse transcriptase, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of viral DNA and preventing HIV replication.
Indications
HIV infection (use only if patient is stabilised for 6–8 weeks on the individual components in the same proportions)
Dosing
- Adult
- 1 tablet (Abacavir 300mg, Lamivudine 150mg, Zidovudine 300mg) by mouth twice daily.
- Renal adjustment
- Avoid if eGFR less than 50 mL/minute/1.73 m2.
