Mechanism

Amprenavir is a protease inhibitor, working to prevent the replication of HIV. As a prodrug, fosamprenavir is converted to amprenavir, which then inhibits HIV proteases. These enzymes are crucial for cleaving viral gag and gag-pol polyproteins into functional proteins, a step necessary for the assembly of new, infectious virions.
