Mechanism

Canakinumab is a recombinant human monoclonal antibody that selectively inhibits interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) by binding to it. This action prevents IL-1β from binding to its receptors, thereby inhibiting its pro-inflammatory effects. Elevated IL-1 levels are associated with active inflammation.
