Mechanism

Carbenicillin, like other penicillins, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). These PBPs are critical enzymes responsible for cross-linking peptidoglycan strands in the bacterial cell wall. This disruption leads to the formation of a defective, osmotically unstable cell wall, ultimately causing bacterial lysis and death.
