Mechanism

Icatibant is a selective bradykinin B2 receptor antagonist. It blocks signaling mediated by B2 receptors, which can be activated by kinin generation or directly by certain proteases like kallikrein.

Indications

Acute attacks of hereditary angioedema in patients with C1-esterase inhibitor deficiencyAcute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults, adolescents and children aged 2 years and older, with C1 esterase-inhibitor deficiencySymptomatic treatment of hereditary angioedema

Dosing

Adult
30 mg for 1 dose, then 30 mg after 6 hours if required, then 30 mg after 6 hours if required; maximum 3 doses per day by subcutaneous injection
