Mechanism

Isradipine, a calcium channel antagonist, produces its effects by binding to the alpha-1 subunit of the L-type Ca2+ channels. This binding reduces Ca2+ flux through the channel, thereby altering the plateau phase of the cardiac action potential and decreasing contraction in cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells.
