Mechanism
Sulconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits lanosterol 14-α-demethylase (CYP51) in the ergosterol biosynthetic pathway. Applied topically as sulconazole nitrate, it is effective against dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton) and Candida species. Like other imidazoles, it has limited selectivity for fungal over mammalian P450 enzymes, restricting use to topical formulations.
