Mechanism

Prilocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic of low toxicity which is similar to lidocaine hydrochloride. It is an amide-type local anaesthetic.

Pharmacokinetics

Protein binding
Binds extensively (55%–95%) to plasma proteins, particularly α1-acid glycoprotein.
Metabolism
Initial step is hydrolytic, forming o-toluidine metabolites.
