Mechanism

Sparfloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, targets bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are crucial for maintaining the supercoiling of bacterial DNA, which is essential for DNA replication and transcription. By inhibiting these enzymes, sparfloxacin disrupts bacterial DNA processes, leading to cell death.

Avoid concomitant use. If no alternative exists and co-administration is absolutely necessary, continuous ECG monitoring and electrolyte correction are mandatory, but generally not recommended.
