Ticarcillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic, belonging to the carboxypenicillin class. Like other penicillins, it primarily exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. This action may also enhance the penetration of other antibiotics, such as aminoglycosides, into the bacterium.
Not known to be harmful.
Trace amounts in milk, but appropriate to use.
