Mechanism

Adapalene, a naphthoic acid derivative, structurally and functionally resembles retinoic acid. Retinoic acid influences keratinization and desquamation. Its prolonged use promotes dermal collagen synthesis, new blood vessel formation, and epidermal thickening. Specific mechanism for benzoyl peroxide is not provided in the excerpts.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Females of childbearing age not using effective contraception
  • Accumulation in angles of the nose
  • Contact with eyes
  • Contact with nostrils

  • Contact with eczematous skin
  • Contact with broken skin
  • Contact with sunburned skin
  • Exposure to UV light (including sunlight, solariums)
  • Severe acne involving large areas
